A dear friend of mind commissioned me to do a piece involving her three home-states and tying in the thought of heaven also being home someday, which is how the Bible verse ties in to this scene. Love how it turned out! Kind of want to make a version for myself someday 🙂 Can you guess the states?
Sometimes I wonder if I’m living life to the fullest, if I’m doing all what I’m suppose to do with my time and talents, and then moments like tonight where I’m painting a quiet scene in my “studio” and my husband comes in periodically to turn my head from the pallet and steal a few warm kisses. And it’s in that moment i stop asking questions,
Pour a cup of hot tea and realize that I am blessed beyond measure exactly where I am.
You know the spot, that overgrown patch down by the creek bed, where the cattails were still taller than you and the only care in the world was catching as many tad poles in the ice cream bucket as your big brother.
My friend just had a baby named Piper, and today I get to make her acquaintance! So I made this quick bright little piece in watercolor as a small gift 🙂
Today I have a really cool story to share about the book I illustrated this past winter called Parker Jane’s Curls.
A colleague from another facility who I do not even know reached out to me a few days ago to share her story about why Parker Jane’s Curls is a perfect fit for her little girl! I asked if I could share her story here, and she told me I could 🙂
“Hey! …I saw your older post on FB about illustrating the children’s book…I NEED THAT BOOK. My daughter is bi-racial and has super curly hair. I am only now starting to learn how to take care of it. And she already hates it. I anticipate a lot of hair issues as she gets older. The book will be perfect! Also…her name is JANE which is even weirder. Very cool connection!…It is surprisingly difficult to find books that have African American (in my case…not sure about others) or mixed race characters. Whenever I find anything, I scoop it up. But this is seriously so spot on… Jane is only 17 months old so it isn’t like she already has issues with it…she just hates having it taken care of…and it’s a lot of work! Totally different way of washing, conditioning, brushing, etc. I’m slowly learning 🙂 And we tell her all the time that she’s beautiful and her curlies are perfect. Hopefully that attitude sticks.”
Love hearing these stories! If you have a special story about why you bought this book, feel free to take a photo and share it with me, these stories are what keep me motivated in my work!!”
